Your journey takes you deep into the Moravian Karst (Moravský kras), a protected landscape of dramatic limestone formations, hidden gorges, and one of Europe’s most spectacular cave systems. The centrepiece is the Punkva Caves (Punkevní jeskyně) — a labyrinth of stalactite-filled chambers carved by an underground river over millions of years. A boat ride along the subterranean Punkva River leads you to the foot of Macocha Gorge, a 138-metre-deep abyss that has fascinated visitors since the 17th century. It is one of the most impressive geological features in the Czech Republic and is rarely matched anywhere in Europe.
After the caves, the day shifts completely. Brno, the Czech Republic’s second-largest city, is only 30 minutes away — and feels like a different world. Less crowded than Prague, more local, and full of personality. You walk at your own pace through the medieval Špilberk Castle, once one of the most feared prisons in the Habsburg Empire, and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul (Katedrála svatého Petra a Pavla), whose twin spires define Brno’s skyline. The Old Town Hall with its famous crooked spire and the legendary Brno Dragon complete a walking tour unlike any standard city sightseeing.

Your driver picks you up in Prague and returns you after the day. Entrance fees to Punkva Caves are not included (see the official price list); some tours can be booked online in advance.
Practical tips: Punkva Caves are cool year-round (8°C / 46°F) — bring a light jacket even in summer. The cave tour is guided (Czech/English) and lasts approximately 60 minutes including the boat ride. Book cave tickets in advance during peak season (June–August) as slots fill quickly.
Winter note (checked 13 October 2026): from November to March the Punkva Caves are closed on Mondays, and on Tuesday–Sunday the last tour starts at 14:00 — choose an earlier pick-up time. From January to March the cable car to the Macocha Abyss does not run; the viewpoints can be reached on foot. You can adjust the route in the trip planner or with your driver during the day (a longer route may cost extra).

The Punkva Caves are the crown jewel of the Moravian Karst — a UNESCO-protected cave system featuring dramatic stalactite halls, an underground river, and a guided boat tour to the base of Macocha Gorge. The gorge itself plunges 138 metres, making it the deepest abyss in Central Europe. After the cave tour, a cable car (not running January–March) or a footpath leads to the gorge viewpoints above ground, offering a completely different perspective on the same geological wonder. Allow 2 hours including travel between cave entrance and viewpoints.
Brno 2 h
Brno is the kind of city that surprises visitors who arrive expecting a smaller version of Prague. It has its own distinct identity: a strong student culture (home to Masaryk University), a buzzing food scene, and a compact historic centre that rewards slow exploration. Highlights include Špilberk Castle (with its infamous 18th-century casemate prison), the twin-spired Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul, and the hidden Ossuary under St. James Church — the second-largest bone ossuary in Europe after Paris. The Brno walk is yours to shape — take the streets that interest you.
